Madonna's Life Is Getting the Series Treatment

Need a little Madge in your Netflix queue? A miniseries depicting Madonna's life story is moving forward at the streamer, Variety reported.

At this point, little is known about the project, the entertainment news outlet relayed, including who might be tapped to play the Queen of Pop. What is known is that the global icon "is partnering with Netflix and director Shawn Levy to develop a limited series about her life and music."

"The show is unrelated to the previous Madonna feature film that was set at Universal Pictures, with Julia Garner attached to star as the singer, before being scrapped in January 2023," the writeup went on to detail.

As recently as last summer Madonna was teasing fans with hints that a biopic or similar project was still in the works. At that time, Garner was still reportedly attached, and the title was reported to be "Who's That Girl."

The film was put on pause while Madonna undertook her massive "Celebration" tour last year. Prior to that, the movie made headlines thanks to Madonna's plans to direct the film herself and the size of the screenplays that the singer drafted with high-profile co-writers like Oscar winner Cody Diablo and Cressida Wilson.

"None of the many drafts of the scripts was ever under 180 pages, according to one source," The Hollywood Reporter relayed in January of last year. "That led to conversations about perhaps splitting the movie into two or perhaps making it into an event miniseries."

The casting of the film was also a strenuous undertaking, with would-be leading ladies reportedly attending a "Madonna boot camp" overseen, in part, by Madge herself. Garner, known for the series "Ozark," won the part over contenders that reportedly included stars like Florence Pugh, "Euphoria" actor Alexa Demie, Odessa Young, and Bebe Rexha.
