Multi-Award Winning Derek Kage Wants to Keep Life Simple – No Relationships (for Now)

Derek Kage made quite a splash when he started doing gay adult films in 2023. The following year he won "Best Leading Actor" and "Best Newcomer" from the GayVN Awards, along with "Gay Performer of the Year" from the XBIZ Awards.

"Last year was my first full year in the industry and to my knowledge, no one has ever won Performer of the Year, Best Newcomer, and Best Leading Actor all in the same year. I was born for this. I could not be happier," Kage told Pride.com in 2024.

His success came at a down time in his life, telling the website that in 2022, "I was struggling with alcoholism, my husband had just left me because I was interested in studio work, and my family life was awful. I actually attempted suicide. It was that moment shortly thereafter that I got my first studio gig. Coming from such a horrible place, I couldn't be happier."

In a recent interview with The Sword (NSFW), Kage discussed his off-camera life since becoming one of the most recognized adult male stars. Simply put, he wants to remain single.

"I do not want a romantic relationship of any kind," Derek said. "I have experienced my fair share of every kind of romantic relationship." He went on to list monogamous, open, long-term, short-term, engaged, and married – all to men!"

All his relationships, he added, ended on such a bad note that he doesn't speak to any of them.

"I gave so much of my time, my energy, and my resources to these relationships – only for every one of them to end with me in emotional and financial ruin," Derek continued. "Not only that, but in order to be in these relationships, I had to sacrifice the parts of me that truly make me – me."

And he will not do it again. "I will no longer compromise any part of myself for the comfort of somebody else." He explained that any potential future partners need to be able to own the same thing."

Not that a relationship is not a possibility sometime in the future, but for now he is concentrating on his career, which he loves, and would consider a relationship with someone if "they can already provide everything that they need for themselves and as long as they do not take anything from my already-wonderful life, then I might think about getting into a romantic relationship. But until then, absolutely not."
