God's Love We Deliver Spreads Thanksgiving Cheer in Brooklyn

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

More than 900 generous volunteers and celebrity comedienne Joan Rivers joined God's Love We Deliver staff, celebrities, local politicians and board members in their new temporary location in Brooklyn in preparing and delivering more than 3,200 Thanksgiving meals for people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life altering illnesses in New York City, and nearby Hudson County, New Jersey.

"We are grateful, as always, to celebrate Thanksgiving with our God's Love community," said Karen Pearl, President & CEO of God's Love We Deliver. "Thanksgiving is a special holiday for our clients, their guests and families, and our volunteers, and this year is no exception.

Of the more than 3,200 meals, nearly 900 were guest meals, so that each client could invite a friend or family member to spend the holiday with them. Our holiday meals were delivered in a cheerful, hand-decorated bag designed by local school children. Each household also received a holiday gift basket, containing crackers, oatmeal, nuts, raisins and other treats to help make the day special.

Demand for the services of God's Love is up by more than 60 percent in the last five years. Because of this record growth and need to expand, God's Love has temporarily relocated to our new home in Brooklyn at 630 Flushing Avenue while we renovate and expand our SoHo home. This was our first Thanksgiving operating out of our new home.

"We are pleased to have cooked and delivered 3,200 traditional Thanksgiving meals for people in the New York City metropolitan area who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves and we thank every volunteer and supporter who made today -- and every day at God's Love -- possible," said Pearl.

Joan Rivers delivered Thanksgiving meals with her grandson, Cooper, keeping a Thanksgiving tradition she has kept for years.

God's Love is the New York metropolitan area's leading provider of life-sustaining meals and nutrition counseling for people living with severe illnesses. Begun as an HIV/AIDS service organization, today God's Love provides for people living with more than 200 individual diagnoses.
