Last week, when Raven Symone tweeted "I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you," many in the media took that as a public coming out for the rumor plagued former child star. But now the 27-year-old actress, most famous for her popular Disney Channel comedy "That's So Raven" and her role on "The Cosby Show," is unexpectedly receiving some negative feedback as Twitter users have spewed backlash on the social media website.

According to the Huffington Post, when some Twitter users read the actress' tweet, they responded with the hashtag "#childhoodruined," which "seems surprising in a supposedly more open era of human expression, especially among younger generations," HuffPo writes.

"raven symone announced that she is gay.. #childhoodruined," one user wrote on Aug. 4. "Raven symone came out the closet? #ChildHoodRuined," another said.

"That moment when Raven from #ThatsSoRaven comes out of the closet, Well alright then...#ChildHoodRuined," someone tweeted.

After making her initial tweet, Raven-Symone's clarified her remarks in a statement to Yahoo's celebrity site omg!

"I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted," she said. "I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to."

Gay rumors have circulated around Raven-Symone's sexual orientation for years. Last year, the National Enquirer wrote a story stating the star was living with out former "America's Next Top Model" contestant, AzMarie Livingston. The actress responded to the allegations and said, "My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm dating to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life."
