Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

Even a turkey like 1982's "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" is getting a Blu-ray release, thanks to its cult following over the years. One of the most reviled movies as part of the "Halloween" franchise, "Halloween III" isn't half bad when seen as a standalone film.

White-masked serial killer Michael Myers is nowhere to be found during this in-name only sequel, which had "Halloween" fans up in arms upon the film's release. For a movie so detested, Shout Factory has done an incredible job restoring "Halloween III" to high-def quality. Original "Halloween" creators John Carpenter and Debra Hill return as executive producers for this bizarre story involving Cochran (the menacing Dan O'Herlihy) murdering children on Halloween night. Tom Atkins ("The Fog," "My Bloody Valentine 3D") is the unlikely hero out to stop Cochran, the owner of mask company Silver Shamrock Novelties. This Blu-ray of "Halloween III" has the tongue-in-cheek subtitle of 30th Anniversary Silver Shamrock Edition.

Writer and director Tommy Lee Wallace, along with other filmmakers and actors, discuss the backlash the film received in the feature "Stand Alone: The Making of Halloween III." Atkins hams it up and doesn't take the interview seriously, as Stacey Nelkin (Ellie) talks fondly of her "Halloween III" experience. Wallace explains his intent to homage the classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" in this third "Halloween" movie. The film's locations are rediscovered in "Horror's Hollowed Grounds," an irreverent look at the spooky small town where "Halloween III" was filmed. A ho-hum still gallery is included on the Blu-ray and teaser and theatrical trailer as well.
