The National Trans Visibility March Kicks Off its Third Year
The following is a press release from The National Trans Visibility March:
The National Trans Visibility March (NTVM) is pleased to announce the kick-off of it's third year of mobilizing transgender, gender non-conforming, gender non-binary (TGNC) communities.
We are pleased to be on the frontlines of the movement for TGNC individuals along with our partner organizations across the nation. "This year, we have taken the march on the road, featuring concurrent celebrations in Sacramento, California, New York, New York, Atlanta, Georgia, Orlando, Florida (the host city for the main event), said Marissa Miller, CEO and Co-Founder of the National Trans Visibility March (NTVM).
The 3rd annual NTVM includes initiatives focused on Safety and Opioid Awareness and Harm Reduction.
Safety Initiative
One focus for this year's initiative is safety. NTVM recognizes that TGNC individuals across this country do not have enough access to safe and stable environments that uplift and celebrate all aspects of each individual. The goal over the next three years is to work with partners across the nation to develop a national safety strategy that will illuminate the importance of involving TGNC individuals in the development and execution of local and statewide wellness service provisions (public health, housing, justice systems, education, etc).
It is through these collaborative efforts that we hope to uplift the voices of TGNC people and create more space for true transformational change. Our founder and fearless leader Marissa Miller believes that, "if the trajectory of your work is not focused on dismantling systems of oppression, then you are wasting your time". The NTVM works to dismantle oppressive systems by demanding the prioritization of the voices of those most often left out of the conversation.
Our People, Our Promise
NTVM had the pleasure of partnering with seven national individuals with varying degrees of lived experience, DC Department of Health, and DC Health Link on the development of an opioid campaign. This campaign represents NTVM's response to the many TGNC individuals impacted by the opioid epidemic.
